Language:  English is the official language, and Fijian and Hindustani are also widely spoken, and a great tourism infrastructure make Fiji an easy country to both get to and get around.

Hello “BULA” – Wherever you go, you're likely to hear a hearty "Bula!" from those around you. Fijians are famous for their hospitality and are generally forgiving of etiquette blunders. A few Fijian words will carry you through many social situations. Bula means "hello," vinaka means "thank you," and moce (pronounced "mo-they") means "see you later."

Visas: Fiji is a pretty easy spot to visit. Our list of Visa Exempt Countries is relatively extensive, including most of North and South America and Europe. As such, when it comes to Visas, you always want to double-check before you go.

Weather:  With a tropical climate boasting year-round sunshine, Fiji has two distinct seasons. Dry season runs between May and October and is arguably the best and most comfortable time to visit, with clear blue skies, low rainfall and humidity and ideal conditions for snorkelling and diving. Daily temperatures hover around 25°C and never dip below 19°C at night.

FIJI LGBTQ+ INFO

Constitutional Protection – Fiji is one of the more progressive countries in the Pacific region when it comes to the legal status of LGBTQ+ people. 

In 2013, Fiji was the first Pacific country to protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in its constitution. It also passed a law to protect against discrimination related to HIV/AIDS. In 2018, Fiji hosted the first LGBTI Pride parade in the Pacific. 

Fiji has a very strong LGBT movement that actively organizing around advancing the rights of Fijians of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, and sex characteristics.

Diverse gender identities are generally more accepted in Fiji than diverse sexual orientations. Vakasalewalewa are a cultural third gender group in Fiji, who are assigned male at birth but may take on a feminine gender expression and roles that are traditionally taken on by cisgender women. This identity can challenge western ideas of sex and gender. The vakasalewalewa can be valued for their ability to carry out traditionally male and female tasks.
